Primary HPV Screening Initiative

About the Initiative

Launched by ACS in 2021, the Primary HPV Screening Initiative (PHSI) was created to accelerate the adoption of primary HPV screening as the preferred approach for cervical cancer screening in the United States. Nearly 100 expert volunteers serving on six workgroups and a Steering Committee advanced the work beyond guideline development to focus on real-world implementation.

By addressing critical barriers to adoption and supporting alignment across organizations, PHSI helped advance the transition to primary HPV screening nationwide. Today, its work continues through the ACS HPV Cancers Roundtable (ACS HPVCRT), supporting efforts to work toward the elimination of cervical cancer by ensuring access to vaccination, screening, early detection, and treatment.
